Recently I have been doing lots of work to get my site-hype project going. Site hype is a service that helps people get more traffic to their web sites but that is not what I am going to write about today.

We are not done with the project yet, in fact, we are just about getting started. Still, I wanted to take this chance to write down a few things that has helped the project so far, perhaps the same ideas can help your projects.

The first thing I did was to take in a partner.

If you can find a partner you can work with and that complements your skill this one small thing can be the difference between a successful project and a total failure. If you don’t take a real partner in the project at least find a mastermind group or a mentor.

You need someone that makes you accountable to get things done. Someone who motivates you when it’s a little touch and I can promise you, all non trivial projects will have a period where it’s not just sunshine.

There will always be a phase where everything is almost done but not quite done, this is where projects get delayed, this is where you need your motivation. Work that little extra to get past that speed bump.

Set goals. This should be obvious, but it easy to forget especially with your own projects. You are probably very motivated at the start and then it might seem like a waste of time to set your goals.

Its not!

Set long term goals, set medium term goals, set weekly goals and even set your daily personal goal.

And set dates.

We have a long term goal to have 100 members using the site-hype system. We have a short time goal to have completed out beta test at the end of February and each week we set goals on what to do.

And follow up on your goals, we do a weekly project review

Communicate. You don’t have to meet in person, if you do internet project that might be hard or even impossible. We use Skype to make sure we keep in touch each and every day. We motivate each other, can discus questions we have. And we always have an open Skype chat window where we can write down ideas or ask questions.

Systemize and Make visual plans. You should write down plans and system in plan text but making diagrams as well. It just makes everything more clear, not only for your partner but also for yourself. For our marketing strategy I have made Visio diagrams, they are easy to follow and helps us communicate.

That’s it for today. The project is coming along fine, can’t wait to share more progress with you all.

I have been working hard lately to get my first info product ready. And todays lesson is this… people don’t understand all you write even though what you write seems obvious to you….

I already have quite a few software products, but this is the first time I am trying my luck on a pure info product. The product is about how you can use social bookmarking and other web 2.0 technologies to bring free web traffic to your web site ( you probably know you can get a lot of free tips from me at http://YourTrafficTips.com ).

So I have the product finished and I am writing on the sales letter. Meanwhile I thought I should let a good friend test the product, to actually use it. Revolutionary idea…. When you work with software its so obvious you need to test, why shouldn’t you test an info product as well? and you should!

Turned out that my instructions wasn’t all that clear, I had missed a few vital pieces of information. So the result of this simple testing is now a much better product and one important lesson learned.

Always Test your stuff!

That’s all for today, why not follow me, frelo, on twitter?

Wordpress is a great platform for a blog, hey, I am using it here.

Wordpress is even a good alternative if you want a normal site and not a blog. It is easy to update the content from anywhere and it is very easy to customize the look and feel of your site. There are tons of ready to plug n play themes for Wordpress. And the last good reason, it is free.

Here are three things you should do before you write your first post.

First decide how you want to organize your blog with categories. Do your keywords research on your categories in Wordtracker. Having your categories setup before you start makes you sure target the right keywords that there are readers for, focus on writing about the right things for the site. A good category layout makes it easier and more logical for visitors to find your content.

Setup your ping list. A ping list is a list of sites that will get an update notice every time you publish content on your site. You can edit your ping list under settings / writing. Search for ping list on the internet and paste it into the text window. You should have this setup before the first post you publish or your will miss the old post. If you do forget it you can go back and edit something in all old posts.

Wordpress uses short urls by default. It is much better to have your keyword research categories in your url and the title of your post. It is better for search engine optimization and it generally makes more sense. In Wordpress go to settings and select the permalink tab. There select the custom radio button and enter “/%category%/%postname%/ “. Now each post will get a permanent url with the category and post title in the url.

You are now ready to write your first page. You can write directly in Wordpress but I prefer to write in word and paste it later into Wordpress. If you do like me make sure to paste into the source tab. If you paste in the preview tab you will get hidden extra characters, the bad think is that they will be visible when you publish your post.

Wordpress is a great platform for your site. If you want tips on how to get visitors to your new blog you can signup to me free newsletter and get a new idea for traffic generation every day in your mailbox.

Hello!

My name is Fredrik Lönn. Welcome to my new blog – Improve by Doing!

So what will this be all about?

I will write about personal development and internet marketing and web traffic generation.

So, let us start off with a small personal presentation. Then I will write a few word of what you will get out of following this blogg.

I am 35 year old live with my wife and two children in Sweden. I have so far run four different, more or less, successful businesses.

I currently work as a full time system architect (lead programmer) at the game development company Avalanche studios in Stockholm Sweden. I work in the engine group developing our core technology that is currently being used in the games like Just Cause 2 and The Hunter. I started to work professionally in game development more than 10 years ago but have been involved with computers since 1983. I hold a bachelor degree in computer science.

This blogg is not going to be about programming or computer games at all.

As I said before I have run a couple of companies, sometime fulltime and sometimes on the side of a regular employment. Right now I am involved in development and marketing of a number of software products, you can find them at my company site. At the moment my video indexing software and a new project is taking most of my free computer time.

Though this blogg is not about my software and it is not a blogg designed to market my programs. As a matter of fact I will try to not write about my software at all here.

In the last year I have gotten more and more interested in personal development. I am currently spending a lot of time improving myself and my leadership, trying to work more effective. The last couple of month I realized that I really did not know much about marketing. My current project is to learn as much as I can about marketing in general and marketing on the internet in particular.

As I own a couple of web sites I also have an interest in getting more visitors to my sites.

This blogg is about my personal development, marketing and web traffic generation.

So how will I do this and what is in it for you?

Each day I spend about three hours travelling to and from my work on train. During this time I listen to courses and lectures about personal development, traffic generation and marketing. In this blogg I will write down my observations about what I have listened to and learned.

In essence you will get a distilled summary of a lot of material without the marketing talk. If you look at a lot of the sales pages for a lot of the products you get a list of questions they claim to answer. By reading this blogg I hope to be able to answer some of these questions and reading the answers will only takes you a few minutes instead of listening through hours of materials. By reading this you will get the essence of these programs, if you then want to investigate further you know what to expect.

So what type of material is he talking about?

Here is a short list of things I have studied the last couple of months; Jay Abraham marketing mastermind seminar, Dale Carnagie – Leadership mastery course, Lead the field, Dan Kennedy – several talks, Mark Joyner – SimpleOlogy and so on.

I will also try to squeeze in a few words about my application of the ideas and practical experiences.

Bookmark this page and I am looking forward to your comments and reflections on my posts.
