On video sharing sites users can upload video clips to a server and share them with others. Visitors can comment on the videos and vote for their favorite clips. Just like with the social bookmarking sites the top voted videos will get a lot of free traffic.

Using these sites is really simple. You create your free accounts and upload your videos with a description. Do not forget to add a link to your site in the desciption. When you upload your video it will be converted to the size and format supported by the video site, ie Flash video.

In the beginning these sites were filled with illegal video and tv clips but now most of the content are from users.

You don’t need state of the art equipment or be a movie producer to create videos for the sharing sites. A simple camcorder will do and really you don’t even need that.

When I started this blog I said I would not link to my software sites. Here I am going to do it anyway.

I want to say one more thing about video creation.

The simplest way to create a video is probably to re purpose your content. If you have a Powerpoint, make a video where you record the power point when you do your presentation. If you have a site or a software do a screen recording with comments about it.

You have your video and are ready to upload it to the site.

Make sure you add a watermark to the video with the url to your site. People actually type this in on the address field of browsers.

As you post your video you have the chance to add a description. Make the description interesting and make sure to include a link to your site and a good reason for people to go there. Make a promise; ask a question that you answer on your site.

I will tell you the truth…

Even though I have created video software, video promotion is probably one of the ideas I have used the least. I know people are getting good results with it but personally I have not had much success. I do use video on my site for documentation and you should to. There is not much extra effort to add it to video sharing sites once you have the videos.
